2024 College Football Preseason Top 25
25-21 25. Iowa State Cyclones. In a year were plenty of players were ineligible due to a gambling investigation, Iowa State went 7-6. They have nine returning starters on each sides of the ball. Quarterback Rocco Becht played well as a freshman and he’ll have plenty of good wide receivers and protection to help the offense increase its production. Defensively the experience should help them improve from their 42nd ranking last season.

Iowa State sophomore Milan Momcilovic hopes to take his game to another level next season. The six-eight native of Wisconsin was named to the Big 12 All-Freshman after averaging just under 11 points per game and shooting 36 percent from three point range. The Iowa State Cyclones finished last season with a mark of 7-6 and a bowl berth. In 2024, things are projected to improve in Ames for Coach Matt Campbell and the Cyclones. In the expanded Big 12, things will certainly look different, but the preseason media poll indicates that the Cyclones will be one of the top teams in the revamped conference.

Iowa State Agrees to Pay $3.5M to Parents of Rowing Team Member Who Drowned in 2021
Iowa State University has agreed to pay $3.5 million to the family of a student-athlete who drowned nearly three years ago while practicing with his rowing team. According to the Insurance Journal, the State Appeals Board approved the terms of the agreement between the school and the parents of the then 20-year-old Yaakov Ben-David.
University of Iowa and Iowa State University drop in U.S. News & World Report global ranks
In the most recent U.S. News & World Report, the University of Iowa fell 45 spots in Best Global Universities Rankings, while Iowa State University's ranking dropped 81 spots. The University of Iowa ranked 180th in last year's list, but fell to 225th in 2024. Iowa State University was ranked 263rd in 2023 and is now ranked 344th.
Preparing for Pests in the Field
Farmers may not be seeing major signs of pests or diseases yet, but should be scouting their fields to get ahead of anything that may come. Iowa State University Extension Field Agronomist Mike Witt says that there haven’t been any reports of major insects like corn rootworm, or diseases like black tar up to this point, but that farmers shouldn’t wait until they see major signs of them. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio what the most important thing to do right now is in terms of preparing for pests, weeds and diseases.

Boone man injured in Sunday evening motorcycle accident southwest of Webster City.
A Boone motorcyclist was injured early last Sunday evening in an accident southwest of Webster City at Stagecoach Road and 270th Street. The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Department reported a 2003 Harley Davidson motorcycle operated by Zachary Hammond of Boone was traveling southbound on Stagecoach Road when it entered a portion of the road curving left and then he lost control of the motorcycle. The Hammond motorcycle entered the ditch on the west side of the road where it came to rest. The accident report stated that the Hammond motorcycle had been traveling approximately 50 miles per hour around the curve when he hit a patch of loose gravel on the road and lost control of the motorcycle. Hammond was transported to the Van Diest Medical Center by ambulance for treatment of neck and shoulder pain. Hammond was wearing his helmet at the time of the accident. Investigating deputy Alex Sharp estimated the damage to the Hammond motorcycle at $5000.
