The Champlin Park LoGators secured an eighth-inning triumph last week with their one weekday game, a 10-4 win over the Hopkins Berries on June 11 at home.

The night did not start ideally for the hosting LoGators, who trailed 3-1 after two innings. Jack Clauson, who pitched the first four innings, looked strong on the mound but the Berries found their moments. A well-executed tag by catcher Clarke Peterson ended the top of the first at 2-0. Before both teams scored one run in the second. Champlin Park’s run via an RBI hit by Tate Wallat to bring Matt Marek home. Hopkins scored another in the third to lead 4-1 heading for the fourth, but the winds were changing that night.

Peterson caught a foul ball and Tyler Reichenborn caught a deep hit to center field to set up a kill by Clauson to end Hopkins at-bats quickly in the fourth. The LoGators scored their first run of the fourth on an error. Ero Wallin scored that run after walking to first and cleverly making his way through second and third. Reichenborn’s RBI single brought Derek Heldman home and closed the gap to 4-3.

The game sat in a deadlock for three innings before the LoGators struck hard in the eighth with six runs to take a commanding lead, eventually winning 10-4.

Reichenbron ended the day with three RBI after going 2-for3. Wallat and Puder had three and two hits respectively, while Siens had a key two-RBI performance. Pitchers Clauson, Dan Buendor, Jeff Heuer and Isaac Wenzel combined for just one error in the win over Hopkins.

The LoGators also played Twin Ports Timbers last week on June 15 (after this edition went to press).

The LoGators will play four games the following week, hosting the Andover Aces on June 18, traveling to the River Falls Fighting Fish on June 19, then hosting the Stockmen’s Irish and Shoreview Stump Grinders on June 21 and 23.

The LoGators is an amateur baseball team that competes in the Metro Minny League. A schedule can be found at www.logatorbaseball.com.
