A Chandler student was among the three Arizonans who were winners in a recent national patriotic art contest.

Dorothy Z. of Chandler was joined by Phoenix and Laveen artists as winners in the 2024 Americas Field Trip contest, meant to help mark Americas 250th birthday.

These students are winners of a contest that invites students across the country to share their perspectives on what America means to them, according to a news release.

They have won a trip with a guardian to one of a handful of field trip experiences at some of the nation’shistoric and cultural landmarks. These include the Statue of Liberty, Yellowstone National Park and the National Archives.

America250 is a nonpartisan initiative working to engage every American in commemorating the 250th anniversary of our country. The U.S. Sesquicentennial Commission was established by Congress in 2016 to plan and orchestrate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

Dorothy Z.’s winning piece appears to be multi-cultural and multi-racial and includes the words “write the future,” “America, wake up” and “I Can’t Breathe.”
