The City of Chandler was recognized in June by the Arizona Department of Health Services with a 2024 Healthy Arizona Worksite Platinum Award, according to a news release.

The city’s human resources director, Fernanda Acurio, and Lisa Marineri, the city’s employee wellness and engagement coordinator, presented the statue for the award at the July 15 Chandler City Council meeting.

Mayor Kevin Hartke read the details of the award and how the city won it.

The Healthy Arizona Worksite Award recognizes businesses that are making efforts to positively affect the health and well-being of employees, their families, and their community through evidence-based worksite health initiatives and promising programs, according to the news release.

Some of the categories that the award is judged on include health programs offered to employees such as health screenings, physical activity programs and stress management.

One of the city’s highest scoring categories was in organizational support of wellness in the workplace, the release states.

A Platinum Level Award is awarded to entities making an impact within and beyond its walls. Platinum-level awardees have demonstrated data-driven programming and are leveraging cross-sector collaborations or partnerships improving the health, well-being and equity of their community,  the release states.

The example provided for judging was the engagement of employees in the “For Our City” annual event. For Our City Day brings volunteers together to build community and neighborhood pride. Volunteers paint homes, weed yards and clean up neighborhoods at risk of decline.

In 2023, 184 employees participated, up from 129 in 2022.
