Houston Schools Scramble to Repair Hurricane Beryl Damage Before New Year Deadline
As Houston Independent School District battles to piece together the wreckage left by Hurricane Beryl, it becomes a race against time to repair the most damaged campuses before the new school year starts on August 12. Officials are uncertain if Sinclair Elementary, Kelso Elementary, and Cage Elementary/Project Chrysalis Middle School, the schools which took the hardest blow from the recent hurricane, will be functional by the targeted date. The statement from HISD, reported by the Houston Chronicle, assured "We are doing everything possible to get these campuses ready for the August 12th start of school," and will keep communities updated.
Med-Dazzling: GBHS students earn recognition for medical innovation
More than 12,000 students aspiring for careers in healthcare from around the world converged in Houston, Texas on June 26-29 for the HOSA Future Health Professionals International Leadership Conference. Six Great Bend High School students qualified for the international competition, and five students attended. Seniors Eliana Teri and Cailyn Murphy placed eighth out of 88 teams competing in the medical innovation category. Sophomore Cara Murphy was also part of the team but could not attend the international conference.

Barton healthcare students place in international HOSA competition
Students from Barton’s chapter of HOSA (Future Health Professionals) joined about 12,500 students in Houston, Texas earlier this summer at the 2024 International Leadership Conference (ILC), where they competed against students from all 50 states as well as students from China, American Samoa, South Korea, Canada, Mexico and Puerto Rico.

Gustin earns Lonestar Degree at FFA State Convention
Hannah Gustin of Jonesboro recently received her Lonestar Degree at the annual Texas FFA State Convention, which was held in Houston this past week. The State Degree, called a Lonestar Degree in Texas, is the highest award the state level organization can bestow upon members. The National FFA Organization states that, of total membership, only three percent of members receive this award based on eligibility requirements.
