County embraces its immigrants with various celebrations
United States Trade and Development Agency Director Enoh Ebong welcomed 15 new citizens to the U.S. at the Vienna Community Center on June 29. After they took their oath, Ebong reminded them to embrace their origins while using this moment as an opportunity to realize their dreams. The director had done herself, as an immigrant from Nigeria who became an American citizen in 2000.

Virginia State Police tried to stop a Nissan driving west on Old Keene Mill Rd. in Springfield at 5:14 p.m. on June 30 for reckless driving. Police say the driver refused to stop, instead speeding away. The pursuit concluded near Old Keene Mill Rd and Spring Street when the Nissan struck multiple other vehicles, and the suspect driver and passenger fled on foot. The Nissan was left in drive and stopped by the same state trooper who positioned his vehicle in front of the moving Nissan.
McLean nursing home seeks to expand with new wing
The owner and operator of a McLean nursing home built in the Baby Boomer era wants to give its residents more space with a proposed expansion. Modalia Capital is seeking to build a new wing for its Vierra Falls Church community at 2100 Powhatan Street, according to a rezoning application submitted to Fairfax County on June 28. The 11,869-square-foot, one-story addition would add 18 private units but no new residents.
