    U.S. Marshals Arrest Berkeley County Man Wanted In Charleston Car Dealership Thefts

    BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. – The United States Marshals Service has arrested a Berkeley County man and another person in connection to the January theft of several vehicles at a West Ashley automobile dealership.

    Marshals began conducting surveillance in the Old Gilliard Road area of Berkeley County, to locate Jaci Deshawn Johnson, who had outstanding warrants, authorities said.

    When Marshals approached the vehicle Johnson was in, he intentionally rammed an occupied United States Marshals Service vehicle head-on.

    Johnson then reversed and nearly struck another law enforcement officer who was on foot. After disabling his vehicle, Johnson and his passenger Kadelle Dallas Jepthan Childers fled on foot. As Childers was running, he threw a firearm.

    Childers was then apprehended by a K-9. Johnson was apprehended by Marshals on foot. Two stolen handguns were found in the stolen vehicle Johnson was driving. When Marshals conducted a search warrant, they located additional stolen property.

    Johnson was arrested and charged with Attempted Murder (x2), Resisting Arrest, Unlawful Carry of a Firearm (x3), Possession of a Firearm during the Commission of a Violent Crime (x2) and Possession of a Stolen Vehicle.

    Childers was arrested and charged with Resisting Arrest, Unlawful Carry of a Firearm (x3) and Possession of a Stolen Firearm.

    The auto theft ring continues to be investigated by the Charleston Police Department and the United States Marshals Service.
