A Charleston law firm recently marked the completion of its expansion project with a high-profile guest.

Shumaker Law Firm celebrated the expansion of its Charleston office with a special event featuring new College of Charleston men’s basketball coach Chris Mack as the keynote speaker.

The event highlighted the parallels between the worlds of business and sports, emphasizing the importance of teamwork, strategy, and competitive spirit, according to a news release.

“The best teams aren’t just about talent; they’re about putting in relentless hard work and dedication to perfecting their strategies and tactics,” said Mack in the release. “I always tell my players, ‘Success isn’t just about what you do on the court it’s about how you prepare, how you push through adversity, and how you carry those lessons into every aspect of your life. These are the skills that will define you long after the final buzzer sounds.’”

The Charleston office’s expansion includes an additional 8,086 square feet of space, accommodating a growing team of attorneys, the release stated. The expanded office space is designed to accommodate future growth as Charleston continues to flourish and the demand for legal services increase, especially in health care, real estate and development, litigation and disputes, corporate, mergers and acquisitions, wealth strategies and more.

“Our Charleston office is thriving and expanding thanks to our attorneys’ dedication to performance and results, their competitive spirit, and ability to work cohesively as a team,” said Shumaker’s Charleston Managing Partner G.P. Diminich in the release. “This expansion is a testament to our commitment to winning more business and providing exceptional service to our clients.”

Mack brings a wealth of experience in leadership and strategy from the basketball court to the podium. As one of just 19 coaches in college basketball history to lead their team to a No. 1 ranking within the first two years at their school, he has agreed to a five-year contract as the new men’s basketball head coach at the College of Charleston entering the 2024-25 season, the release stated.

“We are thrilled to welcome Coach Mack to Charleston and our community. We are grateful to have him celebrate our expansion with us and share his insights on what it takes to reach the top and become number one in both sports and business,” Diminich said.
