CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – Expect a hot and humid Independence Day with high temperatures in the low to mid-90s.

The day will be partly sunny and dry, but there is a small chance of some afternoon rain for some.

Thursday’s high temperature will be near 93 degrees inland and 85 along the beaches – temperatures will feel much warmer with a high heat index.

If you plan on being outside for an extended period, take breaks in the shade, drink plenty of water, and wear lighter clothing.

There is also a moderate risk of rip currents along the beaches on Thursday. If you find yourself caught in a rip current: don’t panic.

Experts say you should swim along the shoreline and not directly into the shore. Once free of the current’s pull, swim at an angle away from the current and towards the shore. If needed, tread water and wave or call for help.
