Navy Yard storehouse redeveloped into boutique housing units

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD)—Over seventy boutique housing units have opened in Navy Yard Charleston, which is set to double as a working space where a storehouse once stood.

Storehouse Nine’s 78 new homes, which range from 540 to 930 square feet, include studio and one-bedroom options. Designers combined elements from the original storehouse, like exposed brick and concrete mushroom columns, with modern takes.

The building was built in 1918, and much of the original architecture is still in the new homes, alongside a blend of 1940s-inspired design touches. Some featured components are open loft ceilings, carpentry closets, standing desks, and designer light fixtures.

“Today’s workforce is more flexible and more mobile than ever before,” said Jay Weaver, Founder and President of Weaver Capital Partners . “We wanted to create a living experience that reflects that trend and serves a broad range of lifestyles and working arrangements. The live/work units at Storehouse Nine can be adapted for artists and business owners, and more broadly for people prioritizing a home office environment.”

A plaza connects the homes to a tree grove, game area, fire pit, and outdoor event space.
