CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – State Rep. Wendell Gilliard and others are set to host a gathering in support of Vice President Kamala Harris’ run for president next week.

The Women of International Longshoreman’s Association (ILA) Local 1422, former senate candidate Kim Greene, and Rep. Gilliard (D-Charleston) will host the event on Wednesday, July 31, at ILA Hall. A lineup of notable speakers will also be featured.

Bakari Sellers, Rep. Tiffany Spann-Wilder, and Hollywood Mayor Chardale Murray will give featured speeches during the gathering. Harris is not set to attend herself.

Organizers say the rally is also a ‘resounding call to action for all attendees’ to build engagement through three key objectives: canvassing, phone banking, and traveling to swing states.

President Biden endorsed Harris shortly after he announced his withdrawal from the 2024 race. Recently, Harris gained the support of enough Democratic delegates to become the party nominee.

The party will determine their nominee at the Democratic National Convention in August.

The rally will be at 6:30 p.m. at 1422 Morrison Drive.
