KANAWHA COUNTY, WV (WOWK) – A speed-hiring event that helped dozens of people find employment has returned for a second year. This follows Thursday’s ‘Prepped and Polished’ event, which helped people look and feel their best by providing them with clothes, haircuts, and other resources.

Friday focused on hiring, where individuals who were looking for jobs could personally meet with several employers and brush up on their interview skills.

“You should just come over here if you’re looking for a career because they’ll put you in the best thing possible for you. There’s really people that care about you,” says Landon Moore.

Moore is a 25-year-old Charleston native. He secured a job today with CentiMark Commercial Roofing after his grandmother told him about the event.

“It’s really nice to see when that light comes on and they see all the new opportunities that are out there that they get to be a part of,” says John Foster, Director of Workforce Development for CentiMark.

CentiMark was just one of the many organizations present at the Kanawha County American Job Center on Friday. CentiMark partners with Bridge Valley Technical College so that its new hires can get on-the-job experience and school credit.

“Really just being here is like a second chance,” Moore says.

Moore says he is thrilled to start a new chapter in his life, but that he is more excited about the impact that this leaves on those around him.

“It gives me a good warm feeling inside to know that the younger generation has something to look forward to. That way they can stay out of the streets, and you don’t have to always look to do illegal activities when you got a building or people like this around.”
