CHARLESTON, WV (WOWK) – For some, a home is a place where you lay your head, but for Habitat for Humanity in Kanawha-Putnam County, a home should be reliable, dignified and safe.

Habitat for Humanity gives eligible candidates the opportunity to buy and own their homes through the educational programs it has available. These programs teach home maintenance, financial literacy and more to interested parties.

“We give a hand up … not a handout. Every home buyer must invest at least 250 hours of sweat equity in building their house or the house of someone else in the program,” CEO of Kanawha-Putnam Habitat for Humanity Andrew Blackwell said.

Blackwell wants everyone to know, that even if you are not currently searching for your forever home, the mission of Habitat for Humanity is fueled by its volunteers.

One home, which is located on Charleston’s West Side, will have another open house this Saturday. If you are interested, you can attend the open house at Habitat for Humanity’s 815 Court Street location.

If this location looks familiar, it would be because 13 News Staff, recently spent the day volunteering at this location for Nexstar’s Founder’s Day of Caring.
