PORT CHARLOTTE — Two people were injured by debris on Monday from an accidental gunshot, according to the Charlotte County deputies.

The Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office confirmed Monday two people were injured “as a result of the incident” that led to the search warrant for the home on Lakeshore Circle.

Both patients have “non-life-threatening injuries,” according to Public Information Officer Christopher Hall, and were transported from the scene for treatment.

“Through the investigation, including statements and evidence found at the scene, the incident appears to have been an accidental discharge where two subjects were struck by fragmentations and sustained non-life-threatening injuries,” Hall wrote in an email Monday afternoon

Hall also noted that the person believed to have discharged the weapon cooperated with the investigation.

Several sheriff’s office vehicles converged on the home following the apparent shooting, including forensics vans. A portion of Lakeshore circle was blocked off to traffic.

CCSO stated there is no current threat to the public and the investigation is ongoing.
