Steven Leskovich wants to unite the Charlotte County Airport Authority and promote the airport’s growth.

Leskovich is running for the District 1 seat for Charlotte County Airport Authority race against Bob Starr.

“The Airport Authority needs to have proper representation that can collaborate, communicate, and cooperate with each other, along with the demands and concerns of our local community,” he said. “We must work as a team, and not as individuals.”

Leskovich, 49, believes the board position requires a “business mindset with knowledge of corporate operations, legal priorities, budgeting, negotiations, fiscal responsibilities, lobbying, and understanding United States codes and regulatory/administrative annotations.”

A practicing attorney and CEO of a Charlotte County law firm for more than 24 years, Leskovich said he’ll use his organizational management skills to help with business operations, develop strategic mechanisms and assist in the readiness to meet the growing needs and challenges of the growing community.

“I have the necessary experience, expertise, and dedication to make the Charlotte County Airport Authority and Punta Gorda Airport the best it possibly can be,” he said.

His goals are to maximize the 2,000-plus acres of airport land, maximize economic growth and development, increase passenger counts to 2.5 million and provide resources for job expansion and construction.

Leskovich said the airport shouldn’t be privatized.

“It is the only revenue-generating organization that brings economic impact to our local economy,” he said, adding the airport offers 11,000 jobs with a $541 million payroll, and a nearly $1.7 billion economic impact to the county.

The independent district doesn’t receive any tax dollars, impact fees from the county or state.

“PGD will continue to grow exponentially as our community increases in population and corporations continue to utilize the resources we have,” he said. “I think they can improve legislative lobbying, commercial land grants and leases, expand parking … and improve educational opportunities for the community and students.”

The Airport Authority seat is being vacated by Vanessa Oliver. The race will be decided on Aug. 20.
