Charlotte hits record-breaking 101, rain expected for weekend

(PINPOINT WEATHER) — After a sweltering, record-setting 101 degrees in Charlotte on Friday, I’m pleased to report that it won’t be quite as hot this weekend. However, it’s still hot! Highs in the low 90s on Saturday, plus the humidity, could make it feel like 100+ in some neighborhoods. Sunday will feel a bit more bearable, with highs only around 90.

Sweltering heat prompts Mecklenburg County to set up several cooling stations

That comes with more needed rain chances, too. In some cases, though, it could be too much of a good thing. Slow-moving downpours expected Saturday afternoon and evening could lead to flooding in parts of the Piedmont and Sandhills. Stay weather-aware, and when thunder roars, go indoors!

We’re expecting more scattered showers and storms Sunday as well, as a cold front lingers nearby. Most of next week will be hot and humid with daily PM storm chances.

Tonight: Isolated shower/t’storm. Partly cloudy. Low 75.

Saturday: Partly sunny and hot. Showers and storms developing in the afternoon and evening. High 93.

Sunday: Partly sunny with areas of showers and storms. 75/90.
