A woman has been arrested and police are looking for someone else in connection with a fatal hit-and-run in east Charlotte earlier this year.

On May 19, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department responded to East W.T. Harris Boulevard, where they found someone lying in the road unconscious. The victim, 57-year-old Wade Terrill Burch, died at the scene.

An initial investigation revealed that Burch was trying to cross W.T. Harris Boulevard when he was hit by a silver or gray sedan. He was not in a crosswalk at the time of the crash, according to police. That driver then left the scene.

Then about two minutes later, a second driver struck Burch, who was lying in the road at that point. According to court documents, the driver, 27-year-old Ana Consuelos, is accused of hitting Burch a second time and failing to remain at the scene until police arrived.

Court records Channel 9 obtained on Tuesday show Consuelos has been arrested and charged with felony hit-and-run resulting in serious injury or death. Her bond has been set at $150,000.

Police said the person who called 911 stopped his car in the road to prevent Burch from being hit a third time. He told them he saw Consuelos’ car apparently run something over because it “appeared to hop into the air,” the warrant reads.

Detectives were able to connect a fender piece left at the scene to Consuelos’ car in order to arrest her.

Police are still actively looking for the first car that hit Burch as he was crossing the road.

Detectives believe the car is a silver or gray 2003 to 2007 Saturn Ion. It may have damage to the front right bumper or the right side of the vehicle.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
