    16,000 without power in University area, north Charlotte

    CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QUEEM CITY NEWS) — More than 16,000 are without power in the University City and Mallard Creek areas Tuesday night.

    According to Duke Energy, the outages occurred around 10:30 p.m. July 16. They include  the Mallard Creek Church Road and North Tryon corridors just beyond the UNC Charlotte campus. Further, the outages extend to the north beyond Interstate 485 into the Highland Creek community.

    Duke officials expect the power to be restored by 1:45 a.m. Wednesday.

    There is no word on what caused the swath of outages.
