CMPD called to homicide in east Charlotte. A police captain says 1 shot.

A teenager was shot and killed Thursday afternoon in an east Charlotte neighborhood.

The shooting occurred in the 6000 block of Cattail Court, Capt. Jason Colquitt of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department told reporters at the scene.

A police report identified the victim as Rashaka Black Prince, 18, who lived in the neighborhood.

“As of right now, this does not appear to be a random act of violence,” Colquitt said. “This is a relatively quiet neighborhood out here that doesn’t experience a whole lot of issues.”

Colquitt said officers headed to the area about 1:20 p.m. after receiving a call that a person had been shot.

Prince was taken to a hospital where he died. Officers could be seen talking to residents that lived across from the Cattail Court cul de sac on Four Sisters Lane.

Colquitt said Thursday that CMPD currently had no suspects.

Two nearby residents, Charles Thomas and Baiyinah Thomas, said this is the first time something like this has happened in the four years they’ve lived there.

Charles Thomas said he was home when police arrived. He could hear sirens and the sound of an ambulance, he said.

They said they were shocked to see it happening in their neighborhood, which they described as family-friendly.

Baiyinah Thomas said she was glad her two sons, ages 12 and 13, weren’t out walking.

They normally walk through Four Sisters Lane, she said, and children are often outside in the neighborhood.
