CHARLOTTE, N.C. ( QUEEN CITY NEWS ) — A Qatar Airways flight from Doha, Qatar, to Atlanta, Georgia, was diverted to Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT), according to flight data from FlightAware and flightradar24 .

Data shows the flight took off just before 8 a.m. local time, 1 a.m. Eastern Standard Time. Around 3:30 p.m. EST, the aircraft began circling near Athens, Ga., leaving the area around 15 minutes later.

The flight looped near Brevard, N.C., and eventually landed in Charlotte around 4:30 p.m. EST. In total, the flight took about 15 hours.

It was scheduled to leave CLT bound for Atlanta around 5:30 p.m. However, the flight was one of several forced to stay in Charlotte during bad weather.

The flight data showed the Qatar Airways plane moving to different areas of the airport until 6 p.m. when it was disconnected from the radar. There is no word on when the flight will depart.

Officials have not said what caused the diversion, but weather radar showed heavy storms in the Atlanta area at the time of the incident.

Hamad International Airport in Doha is the hub for Qatar Airways which flies to 170 destinations on 5 continents. Charlotte is not one of those destinations.
