Panthers former second-round pick may end up getting cut, per NFL analyst

Former LSU wide receiver Terrace Marshall was seen as a potential first-round receiver in the lead-up to the 2021 NFL Draft. Now, just a few short years later, Marshall could be in danger of missing the Carolina Panthers roster completely, according to one NFL analyst.

Pro Football Network’s Dakota Randall identified one player as a potential cut candidate for each team , and he has zeroed in on Marshall for the Panthers. Though he came into the league with promises of being a potential #1 receiver , that potential has yet to be realized as a Panther. Through three seasons, Marshall has failed to really gain any traction in the Panthers receiver corps, and with recent signings he could find himself on the outside looking in.

Marshall has started just 16 games over three seasons with the Panthers, with his most productive season coming in 2022, where he caught 28 passes for 490 yards and scored his lone touchdown to date. Last year, Marshall was only able to produce 139 yards on 19 receptions, falling behind D.J. Chark and Jonathan Mingo on the Panthers’ depth chart as the secondary options to #1 receiver Adam Thielen. Marshall was also out-produced by both tight ends, Tommy Tremble and Hayden Hurst, and both running backs, Chuba Hubbard and Myles Sanders.

Now, Marshall has to compete in the receivers corps with Thielen and Mingo yet again, along with free agent acquisition Diontae Johnson and 2024 NFL Draft first-rounder Xavier Legette for touches – if he makes the roster at all. Marshall will likely compete with former Minnesota Vikings and Kansas City Chiefs receiver Ihmir Smith-Marsette for a roster spot. Smith-Marsette provides special teams ability that Marshall lacks, which plays well in his favor.

Marshall, once a draft darling in some scouting circles, is going to have an up-hill battle to make the roster and finally deliver on the talent he came into the league with.
