Uncertainty continues to loom off the edge for the Carolina Panthers.

President of football operations and general manager Dan Morgan spoke with reporters early this afternoon, a day before the start of 2024 training camp. That start won’t include outside linebacker D.J. Wonnum, whom Morgan provided somewhat of an update on.

“D.J., he’s getting back healthy,” he stated. “He’s doing everything he can from the rehab standpoint to get back. He’s workin’ his butt off. So really proud of him and his progression, where he’s at right now.”

Right now, Wonnum is one of six Panthers currently on the active/physically unable to perform list. The 26-year-old defender, who joined the team on a two-year, $12.5 million deal this offseason, is still working back from a torn quad he sustained at the end of the 2023 campaign.

Morgan was then asked if Wonnum suffered a setback on his road to recovery.

“He had some things goin’ on that I really don’t want to get into here,” he replied. “But nothing that really set him back that much. We feel good about where he’s at right now. D.J.’s workin’ his butt off, again. So we except him to progress and we’ll see where he’s at at the end of training camp.”

Carolina, a team that is particularly thin on pass rushers, can activate Wonnum at any time during camp.

Morgan later added that there is currently no timeline on Wonnum’s return.
