Panthers GM Dan Morgan asked if there are new developments with free-agent CB Stephon Gilmore

Mum still seems to be the word between Stephon Gilmore and the Carolina Panthers.

Before kicking off training camp on Wednesday, president of football operations and general manager Dan Morgan chatted with reporters this afternoon. He was asked if he had anything new to offer on the free-agent cornerback.

“I think with all free agents, they’re on the street,” Morgan replied. “We contact all the free agents out on the street, kinda get their status, see where they’re at from a money perspective, just kinda see where they’re at. Are they interested in our organization? Are they interested in playing for us here?

“So we keep in contact with everybody. We’re gonna try to sign guys that fit what we do. And if they’re a fit out there and they’re a free agent on the street, then we’re gonna entertain all those guys.”

Gilmore, a former Panther, may have been one of those guys earlier on this offseason. Morgan, in fact, said back in April that the team would “leave the door open” on a possible reunion.

The 2019 AP Defensive Player of the Year and five-time Pro Bowler could be of great help to the Panthers, even as he’s set to turn 34 years old in September. Other than starter Jaycee Horn, Carolina’s current stable of outside cornerbacks feature a handful of relative unknowns including Dane Jackson, Dicaprio Bootle, D’Shawn Jamison and Lamar Jackson.
