Detectives have made an arrest after a missing 79-year-old man was found dead this week.

On Tuesday, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department asked for help finding Fred Willie Dunlap, who was last seen Friday at his home on Bobby Lane in east Charlotte.

Police said he didn’t have his required medication when he disappeared and family members were concerned for his well-being.

But on Thursday, CMPD confirmed they found Dunlap’s body. He was found dead Wednesday on Bobby Lane “from an apparent trauma,” they said.

After an investigation, detectives identified 21-year-old Desmond Elijah Dunlap as a suspect and arrested him Thursday. He was charged with murder, financial transaction card theft, and obtaining property by false pretense.
