Some notable help may soon be on the way for the Carolina Panthers defense.

According to Mike Kaye of The Charlotte Observer , the team is expected to work out veteran pass rushers Yannick Ngakoue and Carl Lawson this week. This development comes just days after the Panthers placed two of their outside linebackers, D.J. Wonnum (quad) and Amaré Barno (knee), on the active/physically unable to perform list to start training camp.

Ngakoue got his NFL start as a 2016 third-round pick of the Jacksonville Jaguars, who were also employing current Panthers defensive line coach Todd Wash as their defensive coordinator at the time. His four-year stint in Duval—which was highlighted by a Pro Bowl selection in 2017—resulted in 37.5 sacks, 14 forced fumbles and a pair of interceptions.

The Maryland product would go on to play for five different teams over the next four seasons—with stops for the Minnesota Vikings, Baltimore Ravens, Las Vegas Raiders, Indianapolis Colts and Chicago Bears.

Lawson, a fourth-round pick by the Cincinnati Bengals in 2017, has played six NFL campaigns. He’s amassed 27.0 sacks and 107 quarterback hits in 74 appearances.
