While the spotlight shines on Diontae Johnson, Adam Thielen and first-round pick Xavier Legette, the Carolina Panthers have yet another breakout happening at the wideout position.

Jonathan Mingo, Carolina’s second-round pick last year, appears to have an early sophomore surge going on at training camp.

Mingo was heavily spotlighted in the “stock up” section by The Charlotte Observer’s Mike Kaye recently: “While Diontae Johnson has produced his own highlight reel, (Jonathan) Mingo could easily be considered the offensive star of training camp thus far.”

Per the writeup, Mingo scored two touchdowns in redzone drills and continues to look strong and create mismatches.

As a rookie, Mingo played in 15 games and caught just 43 of his 85 targets for 418 yards, averaging 9.7 yards per catch. That he could emerge now and realize that potential would do nothing short of boost the wideout corps around the still-developing Bryce Young.

Keep in mind, too, Mingo emerging could mean interesting things for 2021 second-rounder Terrace Marshall Jr., who requested a trade last year. If Mingo can secure the third or fourth spot to complete a dynamic set of weapons around Young, the Panthers could pick up the trade phones near 53-man roster cuts.
