Adam Thielen Old Man Energy Fades For Fantasy

Adam Thielen is 33 years old and entering his 12th season in the NFL, but he isn’t letting his age hold him back. After 10 years in Minnesota, Adam Thielen went to the NFC South and had one of the greatest single seasons in Carolina Panthers history. Thielen racked up 103 receptions (the third most in franchise history after Christian McCaffery), 1,104 yards, and 4 TDs.

DJ Chark, Jonathan Mingo, and Terrace Marshall Jr struggled last season, causing Thielen to become rookie Bryce Young’s primary receiver (although Young had his own issues). From Weeks 2-6, Adam Thielen averaged 24.66 fantasy points per game in PPR; in every other week he played (11), he averaged 9.8 FPPG in PPR. Now, the offense has gone through a talent infusion.

Led by a new HC, the offensive-minded Dave Canales, there is the anticipation of improvement within the Panther's offense but slightly decreased production for Thielen with the new offseason additions of rookie WR Xavier Legette and the free agent Diontae Johnson.

According to Harmon’s Reception Perception, Johnson had a success rate in the 81st percentile or higher against man, zone, and press coverage. He’s been at the top in his success rate vs. zone coverage twice in the past and had his second-best finish vs. zone coverage last year (78.3%).

Now Thielen has to compete with that. His current ADP is 13.6, and he is ranked WR63 off the board. Which is still too high for Dynasty; Redraft should have some appeal but can be dropped early if it isn't working out.

Our consensus projections for Thielen in the 2024 season would be 69 receptions, 680 yards, and 3 touchdowns.
