Saratoga County resident Nicholas Criscone, age 50, of Charlton, died Saturday, July 20, when his vehicle went off Stage Road in Charlton, struck a tree, and caught fire.

He was pronounced dead at the scene, according to New York State Police.

News of Criscone’s death sent shock and sadness through the halls of the Scotia-Glenville Central School District in Schenectady County, where he was the principal of Glen-Worden Elementary School in Scotia.

In a letter to parents, Superintendent Susan Swartz remembered the husband and father as a “dedicated educator, leader, and friend” who had an “unwavering passion” for his staff, students, and parents.

Swartz encouraged mourners to honor his memory and dedication by upholding the “values of excellence, compassion, and unity” that he brought to the school.

Meanwhile, donations continue to flood in for a GoFundMe campaign to help Criscone’s wife and three children, who now face an “unfillable void in our hearts,” relatives said.

“Our family gatherings were always filled with laughter and love, thanks to Nick’s huge heart, joyful presence and infectious spirit,” campaign creator Kate Criscone wrote.

“His life was defined by his love for others and his dedication to making a positive impact. As the principal of Mayfield Elementary School, and later, at Glen-Worden Elementary, Nick was cherished not just as an administrator but as a mentor and friend who brought joy and learning to his students.

“His tireless efforts were a testament to his commitment to education and the future of every child he touched.”

The GoFundMe had raised over $17,000 as of Wednesday, July 24. Those who wish to donate can do so here.

Funeral services for Criscone are scheduled for 1 p.m. Friday, July 26, at the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Glenville.
