PELLSTON — Aspiring young pilots can get the opportunity to fly for free with the Harbor Springs chapter of the Experimental Aircraft Association on Sept. 14 at the Pellston Regional Airport.

The flights will take place from 8:30-11:30 a.m. for children ages 8 to 17. Local licensed pilots who are members of the chapter are donating their services and their airplanes for the event.

The free plane rides are part of the nationwide “Young Eagles” program, which was launched more than 30 years ago to introduce children to aviation.

Registration is required for the flights at youngeaglesday.org , and parents can also register their children at the airport on the day of the event. Parents must accompany their children to the airport.

After their flight, each child will receive an EAA pilot logbook and a certificate signed by the pilot.

The flights are weather dependent. If unsafe weather conditions cause the event to be canceled, it will not be rescheduled.
