Traffic backed up on I-86 after crash in Chemung

CHEMUNG, N.Y. ( WETM ) – Traffic is currently backed up on I-86 in Chemung after a crash that took place earlier this evening.

According to an 18 News reporter at the scene, all eastbound traffic on I-86 in the Town of Chemung is being diverted at Exit 57 with traffic backed up for miles after the crash that took place on Friday, July 19. According to 511ny.org , the crash occurred around 5 p.m.

New York State Police, the Chemung County Sheriff’s Office and the New York State Department of Transportation are at the scene directing traffic and tending to the crash. The car involved in the crash was seen in the middle of the eastbound lane near Exit 58 with a tarp over it.

18 News is unsure what caused the crash or if there were any injuries as a result. This story will be updated if any more information becomes available.
