Three people are dead following a crash in upstate New York on Friday.

On July 19, at approximately 4:50 p.m., the New York State Police responded to a two-car head-on collision on I-86 eastbound in the town of Chemung, Chemung County.

A preliminary investigation revealed that a 2018 Nissan Maxima, operated by a 36-year-old male traveling westbound on I-86, crossed over the median and struck a 2015 Acura RDX traveling eastbound. The Acura had two occupants: an 18-year-old male operator and a 44-year-old female.

All three occupants were pronounced dead at the scene.

The identities of those involved were not immediately released.

The New York State Police were assisted by the Chemung County Sheriff's Office, New York State Department of Transportation, Chemung Fire Department, Greater Valley Emergency Medical Services, and Wellsburg Fire Department.

    The investigation is ongoing.
