Towanda, Pa. — The Laurel Health Centers healthcare system has expanded dental services in Bradford County, adding a new office space. Five Cornellians Join The 2024 USA Hockey Women’s National Festival
Lexi Woodcock/Cornell Athletics ITHACA, N.Y. - Five Cornellians will take the stage in the 2024 USA Hockey Women's National Festival, which will be held from August 4-11 in Lake Placid, N.Y. at the Olympic Center. The Festival will include 75 players who are currently either playing professionally or at the collegiate level. Grace Dwyer '25, Lily Delianedis '25, Rory Guilday '25, Annelies Bergmann '27, and Izzy Daniel '24 will represent the Big Red during the festival. Update 6:14pm: Governor Hochul says she has deployed the NYS Police and other agencies to help in Oneida County. As the heat index rose and the potential for storms grew, a tornado has been confirmed in Rome, NY - just north of Utica. Photos from the scene show a church with its roof and steeple torn off, numerous downed trees and power lines, overturned vehicles - even a B-52 bomber on display at the Air Force base was moved by the strong winds.
Barton Mines inducted into state's Historic Business Preservation Registry
NORTH RIVER | Sen. Dan Stec (R,C-Queensbury) presented the management and staff of Barton Mines Corporation (Barton) with a certificate inducting the company into the New York State Historic Business Preservation Registry. Stec nominated Barton for this honor, citing its lengthy history and the continued importance the company has in the region through its operations in the towns of Johnsburg and Indian Lake and the City of Glens Falls.

Ithaca Common Council considering bird bill
ITHACA, NY (CortacaToday) — Ithaca city officials plan to discuss a proposed bird bill. The ordinance would require all new construction projects in the city to meet bird-friendly standards. Governor Hochul Announces Double-Digit Declines in Shooting Incidents, Overall Reported Crime on Long Island
Governor Kathy Hochul today announced continued progress in bringing down gun violence and overall crime on Long Island. Shooting incidents with injury decreased 44 percent as reported by the Nassau, Suffolk and Hempstead Police Departments, which all participate in the State's Gun Involved Violence Elimination program. Across Long Island, statistics show a 15 percent overall decrease in index crimes, as well as a 16 percent reduction in property crimes, during the first quarter of 2024. Governor Hochul also announced the investment of more than $50 million for public safety in Nassau and Suffolk Counties, the largest such State investment in history, which was included in this year's State Budget.
