The city of Woodstock has received grant funding to conduct a study aimed at identifying housing needs.

The Woodstock City Council unanimously voted May 20 to accept $80,000 in grant funding from the Atlanta Regional Commission's Community Development Assistance Program.

The funding will be used for what the city is calling the Woodstock Housing Capacity and Gap Analysis Project.

The study looks to identify the gap between the housing density allowed under current zoning and development regulations and future needs to keep pace with expected population growth, according to city documents.

Through this project, the city hopes to identify potential "opportunity sites" for infill housing and "foster greater income diversity so people who work in the community will be able to live there as well, reducing the need for long commutes," according to city documents.

The Atlanta Regional Commission announced May 8 that Woodstock was one of six metro Atlanta recipients that would receive funding through its Community Development Assistance Program.

The projects were chosen through a competitive process that solicited proposals from local governments, Community Improvement Districts and nonprofits across the Atlanta region, according to city documents.
