A new emergency medical services station is coming to Cherokee County near Woodstock in 2025.

The Cherokee County Board of Commissioners unanimously voted May 21 to approve a $4 million construction services agreement with Ward Humphrey, Inc. for the renovation and construction of Station 30 for Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services.

“This is greatly needed in the Woodstock area where we don’t provide fire service, but we do provide EMS service,” Chairman Harry Johnston said. “This station will help better serve the area.”

The $4,048,310 agreement with Ward Humphrey, Inc. includes a 15% county-controlled contingency in the event of any unforeseen construction issues, according to city documents.

This project includes 2,723 square feet of new construction and 3,205 square feet of renovations to the existing structure. Once complete, the building will serve as Station 30, an EMS-only station that will include apparatus bays and support spaces for Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services.

The bays will be adjoined by support spaces containing gear lockers, a mechanical platform, bay storage and EMS storage spaces. The EMS station will contain office spaces, dayroom, dining, kitchen, exercise room, bathrooms, laundry, bunk rooms and support spaces, county documents show.

The building will receive a prefinished metal roofing system on pre-engineered light gage metal trusses. The renovated portion will receive new paint throughout, new HVAC, plumbing, electrical systems throughout, new windows and doors, new gutters and downspouts and other improvements, according to county documents.

The site work includes new parking, sanitary system and more, as well as a new generator.

The existing building, which used to be Bethel Baptist Church, is located at 2017 E. Cherokee Drive.

The county purchased the 4.01 acres in April 2023, after call volume indicated the need for an additional ambulance in the area.

This project is funded with Amercian Rescue Plan Act funds and Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax.

Renovations and construction are expected to be completed by early 2025, according to the county.
