Two Norfolk neighbors were on the Titanic

Four Virginians were confirmed to be onboard when the Titanic sank on April 14, 1912. Phillip Acts and Selini Decker, who lived a few blocks apart in Norfolk, died when the ship sank. Richmond native Robert Decker and Eloise Smith, who later moved to Richmond from West Virginia, survived.

If relatives of the Virginia victims may have desired to one day find their remains, they will not. IFL Science says the depths of the ocean and the low calcium levels would have caused bones to disintegrate.

    No remains will be found

Many people believe the wreckage should be considered a sacred burial ground, and the US Government sued to prevent further explorations after the submerged structure's implosion. AP News Norfolk reported in early July that the US had ended its battle, and additional explorations would occur.

On July 13, USA Today stated that a new expedition to the Titanic was being planned. If they are successful in reaching the wreckage, they will not find the remains of any of the survivors, just as previous expeditions never did.
