DJ Randall leaves a lasting legacy

Virginia Hip-Hop fans have been posting on Facebook, and Metro confirms that Jungle drum & bass pioneer DJ Randall, 52, has passed away. The godfather of breakbeats in the 1990s died on Wednesday, July 31.

He was born Randall McNeil in East London, England, on April 2, 1970, and became prominent after appearing at Leyton's rave 'Living Dream'. He was one of the most notable DJs of the breakbeat hardcore scene and a co-owner of the De Underground record shop and label based in Forest Gate.

As a vinyl-obsessed youngster and amateur record scratcher, he first experienced acid house during Notting Hill Carnival in 1987, before establishing his own distinct style of breakbeat hardcore.

DJ Randall founded the Mac II record label and continued to play until his death. According to The Sun, no official cause of his demise has been given.
