Virginia soap fans, there is big news. Soap Opera Digest reports that Kelly Monaco will no longer portray Sam McCall on was unable to breathe while wearing a COVIDThe actress started the role nearly 21 years ago and has become a fan favorite.

No reason has been given for Monaco's departure, but fans know that the past few years have been difficult for her on and off-screen. The actress has been replaced several times by Lindsay Hartley.

On one occasion, she became ill while taping because of the hot lights and was unable to breathe while wearing a COVID mask. Fans have criticized Sam's choices and Monaco's looks on social media. She has spoken out at least twice about online bullying.

Kelly shared her displeasure online when her good friend Billy Miller (Drew Cain) was fired. When Miller died by suicide, some General Hospital fans were angry because the soap vet did not speak out publically about her loss.
