A 34-year-old Montgomery County man and a 31-year-old Prince George’s County man are both behind bars for their alleged roles in the break-in at a Chesapeake Beach pharmacy on June 26.

According to court records, Aaron David Dickerson of Germantown is charged with second-degree burglary and fourth-degree burglary in connection with the alleged break-in at CVS Pharmacy. The other suspect, identified as Tevin Denzel Smith of Suitland, has been charged with conspiracy.

According to charging documents filed by Detective Edward Yates of the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office, footage from a store video surveillance camera shows that shortly after 3 a.m. on June 26, someone used a crow bar to gain entry to the business. The perpetrator was allegedly carrying a hydraulic tool and other implements.

Yates said the video footage indicates Dickerson “attempted to break into the ATM safe utilizing the tool. When unsuccessful, he attempted to cut into the safe using a battery-powered metal angle grinder.”

Yates stated the other perpetrator “acted as a lookout outside the front door.”

The sheriff’s office investigation, according to Yates, determined “the safe was never accessed and no money was stolen.”

Dickerson and Smith were arrested at separate traffic stops.

Court documents stated that the Lexus Smith was driving was stopped in the Owings area off Route 260 in a restaurant parking lot.

“A check of his identity led the deputies to learn that Tevin Smith was wanted by the Arlington Police Department for a violation of probation,” Yates stated.

Dickerson was a passenger in a Jeep Grand Cherokee which was stopped at a dead-end in Chesapeake Beach. The driver got out of the vehicle and fled while Dickerson remained in the Jeep. Yates said he was “positively identified as a suspect from CVS by his appearance, clothing and shoes.”

Tools that were believed to have been used during the incident at the pharmacy were found inside the vehicle.

The CVS store manager told investigators “this was the fourth CVS ATM burglarized in the Southern Maryland/Prince George’s County region in the last five nights,” Yates said.

It is not known at this time if Dickerson and Smith were involved in any similar recent incidents in other jurisdictions.

Both Dickerson and Smith are being held without bond.

A district court hearing on the charges Dickerson is facing is scheduled for July 26. Smith’s district court hearing is scheduled for Aug. 16.
