https://img.particlenews.com/image.php?url=0L4qaH_0swoxCuA00 On May 10, 2024, at around 4:10 a.m., Chesapeake Police responded to Route 58 near the 5100 block of W. Military Highway about a motor vehicle accident between a tractor-trailer and a white sedan. When Police arrived on the scene, they contacted the tractor-trailer’s driver. The adult male driver of the sedan was found to be deceased. It was determined that the tractor-trailer was traveling Westbound on Route 58 and was attempting to conduct a U-turn into the Eastbound lanes. A sedan traveling Eastbound struck the tractor-trailer while the U-turn was being made. The Chesapeake Police Crash Reconstruction Team responded to the scene to investigate the crash. The tractor-trailer driver remained on the scene, and the accident is still under investigation. During the accident, the tractor-trailer’s fuel tank ruptured, spilling a large amount of diesel fuel across the Eastbound lanes. The appropriate HAZMAT teams have been notified and will respond to assist with the clean-up. Two eastbound lanes of Route 58 reopened at approximately 10 a.m., and all westbound lanes were reopened at 7:00 a.m. Motorists are urged to avoid the area while the clean-up takes place.
