Trump Warns Rally-Goers Not to Hang Out with Fictional Character: ‘Don’t Do It’

Former President Donald Trump cautioned his supporters not to have dinner with the antagonist of the 1991 film Silence of the Lambs , or as Trump called it, Silence of the Lamb.
Speaking at a rally in Chesapeake, Virginia on Friday, the former president took a victory lap after debating President Joe Biden the night before. Trump has previously praised Hannibal Lecter – the cannibalistic serial killer played by Anthony Hopkins in the aforementioned film. This time, the former president went a step further and warned his supporters not to have dinner with the character.
“They’re coming from prisons and jails, mental institutions and insane asylums like Silence of the Lamb,” Trump claimed of undocumented immigrations coming into the U.S. “The press always says, ‘Why does he ramble about Silence of the Lamb?’ The late, great Hannibal Lecter. He’d like to have you over for dinner. Did you ever? Don’t do it. If he suggests, ‘I’d like to have you for dinner,’ don’t go. But these are the people– these are the people that are coming into our country and they are coming in numbers that nobody can believe.”
At the end of the Silence of the Lambs , an escaped Lecter says of his longtime jailer, “I’m having an old friend for dinner.”
Trump invoked Lecter at a rally last month.
“Has anyone ever seen The Silence of the Lambs ?” Trump asked . “The late, great Hannibal Lecter is a wonderful man. He oftentimes would have a friend for dinner. Remember the last scene? ‘Excuse me. I’m about to have a friend for dinner,’ as this poor doctor walked by. ‘I’m about to have a friend for dinner.’ But Hannibal Lecter. Congratulations. The late, great Hannibal Lecter.”
