Sheron Swindell Barnard

Sheron Swindell Barnard,71, went to her heavenly home on Tuesday June 18, 2024. She was in Sentara Obici Hospital surrounded by her family. The daughter of the late Betty Thigpen Swindell and the late Marion Smith Swindell, she was born in Elizabeth City. She is survived by her loving husband of 50 years Ronnie Barnard of Chesapeake, VA; her son, Robert Barnard (Lora) of Chesapeake, VA; her daughter, Kim Self of Chesapeake, VA; her sister, Beth Williams (David) of Midlothian, VA; her sisters-in-law, Suzy Swindell of Greensboro, NC and Anita Whitehurst of Shiloh, NC; three grandsons, David Costen II, Tyler Winn (Taylar and son Elijah), and Cody Winn; and many aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She was preceded in death by her brother, Larry Swindell and her sister, Jane Swindell. Sheron’s true love was her family. She spent her life as a homemaker and taking care of her husband and children. While her children were in school, she worked as a teacher assistant in the Chesapeake Public School System. She loved educating and developing children. She was loved and will be greatly missed. There will be a private celebration of life. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to the Special Olympics or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
