MURDERER SENTENCED TO 85 YEARS
(Richmond, IN)--What amounts to a life sentence behind bars has been handed down to a Richmond man who shot and killed his neighbor and also shot that man’s mother. 44-year-old Elick Allen was sentenced on Wednesday to a total of 85 years behind bars. Back in May of 2021, Allen shot and killed John Day in a trailer on New Paris Pike as the culmination of a dispute that had started the day before. Allen also shot Day’s mother, Brenda. She survived. Richmond Police Chief Kyle Weatherly issued a statement following the sentencing saying that the sentence "sends a firm message that crime will be solved and offenders will be held accountable."
Commissioners approve resolution to accept Kroger’s opiate settlement
GREENVILLE — Commissioners approved a resolution to accept the opiate settlement. Commissioners Matt Aultman, Marshall Combs, and Larry Holmes were present. The Darke County Commissioners moved to go into executive session in regards to the pending and imminent court action for a civil complaint against manufacturers and distributors of prescription opiates.
Thompson featured at GMCB concert
GREENVILLE — The Greenville Municipal Concert Band will once again present a free concert at the Marling Band Shell in the Greenville Park this Sunday, July 14 at 7 p.m. The concerts are an excellent way to get out and enjoy the park and family while listening to great music. This week the GMCB will present music from Walt Disney Productions. The featured performer is Kari Thompson. She is the Vocal Music Educator for Greenville Middle School.

Greenville Police Department – Police Reports
On June 27, 2024 at approximately 7:25 PM, while on patrol in the City of Greenville, PO observed a known male subject, Keith Mitchell, riding his bicycle northbound in the alley beside Subway ( 325 Martin Street). It was known that Mitchell had a misdemeanor warrant for failing to appear for trial on an original charge of driving under suspension. PO was able to turn my cruiser around and get behind Mitchell who was then traveling eastbound on Devour Street. Mitchell then turned southbound down the alley between the 200 blocks of Washington Street and North Gray Avenue. Mitchell was advised to stop his bicycle at which time he did. He was advised of his warrant and placed into handcuffs. Dispatch was able to confirm Mitchell’s active warrant through LEADS/NCIC. Mitchell was advised of his Miranda Rights and searched incident to arrest with no contraband being located. Mitchell was placed into the back of the cruiser and transported to DCSO jail were he was incarcerated with a bond of $1,025.00.
