RPD MARKS NINE-YEAR POINT SINCE TEEN'S UNSOLVED MURDER
(Richmond, IN)--This week, Richmond police investigators marked the nine-year point since the murder of a teenager that remains unsolved. It was August 19 of 2015 when 18-year-old Caleb Stevens was shot and killed inside his home in the 1600 block of South 13th. Witnesses had said that two masked men stormed inside the house and began to shoot. RPD said Tuesday that they continue to seek tips and leads. There is a reward that has grown to over $26,000 for information that leads to the arrest of whoever is responsible.

WOMAN JAILED AFTER ALLEGEDLY DRIVING AWAY FROM REID FOLLOWING OVERDOSE
(Richmond, IN)--A Richmond woman is behind bars after allegedly overdosing and then driving away from Reid Health early Thursday morning. According to scanner traffic, 39-year-old Lyndsay Brown was revived with Narcan but then tried to drive away from Reid at around 1 o’clock Thursday morning. Brown was stopped and arrested a short distance away. She was charged with meth possession and operating with a controlled substance in her body.

Reese Hausman from Fogelsville, was named to the spring 2024 president’s list at Miami University, Oxford, Ohio. Miami University students ranked in the top three percent of undergraduate students within each division for the spring 2024 semester have been named to the president’s list recognizing academic excellence.
IU EAST EXPANDS COLLABORATION WITH PROFESSIONAL TENNIS
(Richmond, IN)--IU East is highlighting its partnership with Women’s professional tennis. IU East said Thursday that 22 members of the Women’s Tennis Association have earned degrees in an 11-year partnership. The highest-profile player has been Venus Williams. Three more players graduated this year. IU East added that 15 players have enrolled for classes this fall.
CITY STEPS IN TO EXPEDITE UPTOWN SIDEWALK COMPLETION
(Richmond, IN)--The city of Richmond has had to step in to help complete INDOT’s project on East Main Street. Modifications to the sidewalk in the 900 block of East Main are needed to provide consistency and maintain ADA standards. If those modifications would have been done within the parameters of the contract, it would have pushed construction into next year. The city now plans to use $30,000 in contingency funding to cover the cost of what they call an emergency contract.
ARCHWAY DAYS KICKS OFF LATE SUMMER FESTIVAL SEASON
(Centerville, IN)--The Whitewater Valley’s late summer and early fall festival season kicks off this weekend with Archway Days in Centerville. Events will be centered around Maplewood Park and will include mechanical bull rides, inflatable slides, and bounce houses along with the usual offerings from vendors of food, arts, and crafts. A parade is scheduled for 4 o’clock Saturday afternoon along Main Street.

Schools in Wayne County locked down after hoax bomb threat
RICHMOND, Ind. (WKEF) -- The Richmond Police Department in Indiana is investigating a bomb threat toward several school districts in Wayne County. Police say that at 8:27 a.m., they received an anonymous call from an individual claiming to have taken his wife hostage and that they were heading toward a local community school with a bomb.

GREENVILLE — Main Street Greenville’s Mural Committee’s latest addition had a “brush in” with the corner of Walnut and Third Streets on the Beanz Buttercream building. The committee’s first painted mural is combined with vinyl text and wraps around the building. It was accomplished with the hard work of professional artists and committee members generously donating sweat equity to the project: Jennifer Overholser, Stephanie Schieltz-Lowder, and Joe Wintrow. Wintrow Signs produced the vinyl text background.

It is with heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Faith Hall on August 13, 2024, at the age of 69. Born on November 6, 1954, to Faye Noah Green and Charles Ford. Faith was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend who brought joy to all who knew her.
Larry Gene Boone
Larry Gene Boone, age 85, of New Castle, passed away Sunday, August 18, 2024 at Abbie Hunt Bryce Home. He was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on March 30, 1939 to Ralph Morris and Marietta June (Dodd) Boone. He attended Warren Central High School. He married Marieta Liane (Jones) Boone on June 20, 1992 in New Castle.

Volleyball opens at East Central Invite
The Connersville Lady Spartan volleyball team opened the 2024 regular season at 2-1 following the East Central Invitational in St. Leon on Saturday. Connersville opened the tournament with a 3-set (26-24, 16-25, 15-9) win over the Union County Lady Patriots.
EDC TOUTS ACCOMPLISHMENTS IN CONTRACT DISCUSSIONS WITH CITY
(Richmond, IN)--Richmond Common Council met last night. The city’s contract with the EDC is set to expire and be renewed. Valerie Shaffer with the EDC recapped that organization’s accomplishments since the current contract went into effect three and a half years ago. "16 businesses have worked directly with the EDC that resulted in $534 million in new investment, and that's in both real estate and machinery and equipment. That has also led to the creation of - or the pledge of the creation of - 445 new jobs and the retention of 366 existing jobs," Shaffer said. The contract was referred Monday night to the Finance Committee and will come back to Council at a later date.
