    Chester water department investigating water discoloration

    CHESTER, Mass. (WWLP) – 22News has received complaints from residents in Chester about the tap water being discolored for over a week.

    According to a statement on the Town of Chester’s website , dated July 23, the town’s Water Commission is investigating the issue. They have notified the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP), Massachusetts Rural Water, and the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency.

    West Springfield issues “do not use” drinking water order

    The results of water sample testing done on July 15 and July 23 have not yet been received and they will provide updates to the town government and residents when information becomes available. The statement also says that the most recent testing found no bacteria in samples.

    The town will be flushing hydrants and exercising valves at the water treatment plant to move water through the system. The Water Commissioners are meeting with MassDEP on Wednesday and will release an update after the meeting.
