Chesterfield to Expand Library Hours Over Weekend Due to Extreme Heat

Chesterfield County, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - Ahead of another wave of heat expected to hit Central Virginia this weekend, Chesterfield County has announced that all of its libraries will stay open later to give residents a safe place to cool off.

The County says all of its public library locations will be open until 6 p.m. on Saturday, June 29. On Sunday, June 30, Ettrick-Matoaca, Central, and North Courthouse Road libraries will be open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

To avoid heat-related illness, the county recommends that residents stay hydrated and take cooling, indoor breaks at least every 30 minutes if working outdoors.

“Prolonged exposure to extreme heat poses many health risks, including heat exhaustion and heat stroke. To avoid heat-related illness, stay hydrated and take cooling, indoor breaks at least every 30 minutes if working outdoors,” a spokesperson with Chesterfield County said.
