Parkins: Makeup of Bears' new-look offensive staff is more evidence Chicago will take a quarterback atop NFL Draft

(670 The Score) Score afternoon host Danny Parkins believes the makeup of the Bears’ new-look offensive staff is further evidence that Chicago will select a quarterback at the top of the NFL Draft.

The Bears hired former Seahawks offensive coordinator Shane Waldron to the same position in Chicago, then added former Panthers offensive coordinator Thomas Brown as their new passing game coordinator and former Seahawks assistant quarterbacks coach Kerry Joseph as their new quarterbacks coach.

Those additions to the Bears coaching staff have drawn praise throughout the industry, as each of them is well-regarded.

“I don’t think all of these guys who had the ability to interview for offensive coordinator positions come here to coach Justin Fields,” Parkins said on his show Tuesday.

“I think the caliber of the staff that was able to be put together is largely due to the ability to say, ‘Look at what (Texans offensive coordinator) Bobby Slowik had for his career with C.J. Stroud.’ He’s ended up going back to Houston, but he got a bunch of interviews and he got a huge raise reportedly in Houston and everybody knows his name and he’ll be on all the head coaching interview lists again next year.

“Obviously I can’t prove it, but it feels to me like the caliber that the industry says this staff is is tied to the Bears having the No. 1 pick and that increasing the attractiveness of the job.”
