(670 The Score) The White Sox have named left-hander Garrett Crochet their Opening Day starter, manager Pedro Grifol told reporters Monday at spring training in Glendale, Arizona. The team later revealed the news on social media.

Crochet, 24, will will get the ball when the White Sox host the Tigers on March 28, and it will mark his first MLB start. He has a career 2.71 ERA in 72 games, all in relief, in his three-year MLB career.

The White Sox selected Crochet at No. 11 overall in the 2020 MLB Draft. He pitched in just 13 games in 2023 following his recovery from Tommy John surgery, which forced him to miss the entire 2022 season.

The White Sox initially named right-hander Dylan Cease as their Opening Day starter, but he was traded to the Padres last week in a deal that send four players back to Chicago.

"It's humbling and very gratifying," Crochet told the Sun-Times . "I worked my tail off this spring."
