(670 The Score) Veteran Cubs right-hander Kyle Hendricks is off to a poor start in 2024, putting his spot in the rotation in peril.

In three starts, Hendricks has posted a 12.08 ERA and 2.37 WHIP in 12 2/3 innings. That included a rough outing in the Cubs’ 10-2 loss to the Padres on Wednesday, when he allowed seven runs, all earned, on nine hits in five innings. Hendricks struck out two and walked none.

The 34-year-old Hendricks is the longest-tenure member of the Cubs and was a central figure on the club’s championship-winning team in 2016, forever cementing his legacy in franchise lore. But the circumstances may soon mean he’s out of the team’s rotation.

“You’ve got to be honest about what’s going on here, and what’s going on here is they have several young pitchers coming up that they believe in and they’ve got Kyle Hendricks at the end of his career,” Score morning host David Haugh said. “And they’ve got a division to win.”

“It just feels like it’s over,” co-host Mike Mulligan said.

“At this stage of his career, you worry,” Haugh said.
