(670 The Score) The Bears are taking a significant step forward with their exploration of a new stadium along the city’s lakefront, as they're set to announce details regarding their plan in a press conference Wednesday at Soldier Field.

The Bears will reveal their plans for “a state-of-the-art, publicly owned enclosed stadium, along with additional green and open space,” according to a press release sent through an outside firm. The team didn't immediately offer specific details or attendees for the availability.

In March, the Bears proposed $2 billion in private funding for the stadium project along the lakefront. It would be constructed on the site south of Soldier Field, which is currently occupied by a parking lot.

"The Chicago Bears are proud to contribute over $2 billion to build a stadium and improve open spaces for all families, fans and the general public to enjoy in the city of Chicago," Bears president/CEO Kevin Warren said previously. "The future stadium of the Chicago Bears will bring a transformative opportunity to our region — boosting the economy, creating jobs, facilitating mega events and generating millions in tax revenue. We look forward to sharing more information when our plans are finalized."

It remains unclear how much the Bears will seek in public funding to cover the remaining costs of the stadium construction. The project could cost $2.5 billion to $3 billion, Crain’s Chicago Business reported in March. The NFL could also contribute a loan to fund the remaining costs.

The Bears’ location focus for a new stadium shifted back to the city’s lakefront in 2023 despite the team closing on its $197.2-million purchase for the 326-acre Arlington Park property in suburban Arlington Heights.

The Bears have struggled to secure property tax certainty with three local school districts, which led the team to pursue its option in the city. Warren’s strong relationship with current Chicago mayor Brandon Johnson helped the effort to keep the Bears in the city after the organization had tense dialogue with former mayor Lori Lightfoot.

The Bears have played their home games at Soldier Field since 1971, operating under a lease through the Chicago Park District. That agreement runs through 2033.

The Bears will conduct their press conference at Soldier Field one day before the 2024 NFL Draft, in which the team owns the No. 1 overall pick. Chicago is expected to select USC quarterback Caleb Williams with the top pick.
