LAKE FOREST, Ill. (670 The Score) — Bears linebacker T.J. Edwards and offensive tackle Darnell Wright were recognized Tuesday as the team’s recipients of the Brian Piccolo Award.

The Piccolo Award is given annually by the Bears to a veteran and a rookie who best exemplify the courage, loyalty, teamwork, dedication and sense of humor of the late Piccolo. Edwards and Wright spoke in a ceremony Tuesday at Halas Hall that was attended by Bears ownership, management and coaches as well as past Piccolo Award winners and members of the Piccolo family.

“It’s humbling,” Edwards said. “Just kind of the way I was raised, to treat people right and try to do the right thing. Lord knows I’m not perfect, but I try to do those things every day. I think when it’s an award that’s voted on by your peers, it means all the more. That’s the people you come to work with every day. It makes that special.”

The Piccolo Award has been presented each year since 1970, when Piccolo passed away after a battle with cancer.

The Brian Piccolo Cancer Research Fund has raised more than $10 million since 1991.
